Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Arabic for βto God we belong, and to God we return)β this was such a beautiful tribute to your grandmother π€
Beautiful. I lost my grandmother earlier this year and, only weeks later, her sister who was like a grandmother to me, as well. The loss took time to register, if I'm being honest. Sometimes it still feels like they're just each in their homes, states away, and that I will hear from them soon. But birds come closer to me now, I see red cardinals nearly every morning. It feels as if they are constantly checking in, visiting each day to make sure I'm living my life. In that sense, I feel closer to them than ever. I am very sorry for your loss <3 sending love and light. This was a gorgeous way to honor her. She sounds like an extremely fantastic person. What a privilege to have known her.
This is quite beautiful. This morning I had the instant urge to call up my Abuela which I finally followed through with. Then coming across this article this afternoon is quite a serendipitous experience. Thank you.
Allah yrhamha i loved this post and this reminded me to both my grandma and grandpa they are both Arab if you know Arab grandparents are like second parents they treat you so well , with kindness and truly the sweetest people I truly wished I spent more time with them when I was so busy with my studies ... π€
Angelina, this brought me to tears. I am so sorry for your loss, this made me think of my grandma and how lucky we've been to be alive at the same time. Hope that helps you too in this difficult moment. Thank you for sharing this incredible piece of vulnerability.
I am also very close to my grandmother. She is 83 and coming to visit me next month. Thank you so much for reminding me how lucky I am. Your grandmother will always be so proud of you. What an incredible woman.
"She was one of a kind. I am who I am because of her. A social butterfly, she was well-liked in society and treated everyone with kindness. She loved to read. She loved to cook. She loved New York. She saw the good in every situation. She buried a child. She buried her husband. She had cancerβtwice. And beat itβtwice. Through all of this, she lived every day with optimism. She never complained and never wanted anyone to feel like there was more they could be doing for her. She was tough."
Beautiful, beautiful words, Angelina. I'm so sorry for your loss. β₯
I lost my nana last summer, and I still think of her all the time and cry. It's such a beautiful gift to be close to our grandparents in our 20s - it teaches us so much, and invigorates them as they remember what it's like to be young.
Sending you good thoughts!! I know all of our grandmas are probably gossiping about us right now <3
