Beautiful tribute to our city and to Uncle Gérald and me. The idea that we might be part of the reason that you are in New York brought me to tears. We love you.
never been to new york. this was such a wholesome, entertaining story. the sort i would read in a famous book by an obscure author. thank you for writing this.
“New York is a place that’s easy to call home if you’ve never felt a sense of home anywhere else.”
i’ve never resonated with something more. even though i’ve only sporadically lived in new york, it has always felt like Home. it feels like Me. and i think it’s because it feels like an accumulation of everywhere i’ve lived, everything i’ve wanted, everything i’ve been inspired by. it’s a transient city to many, but as someone who has lived a transient life, it’s the most consistent, the most stable, the most Home. big fan of your writing, angelina!! 💕💕💕
Thank you for that. I love reading about all things New York. Several years ago I had planned on attending a Screenwriting School there and looked forward to the entire change from suburban living to a small expensive apartment, the corner stores, the people, the restaurants… you name it. Unfortunately, I had to pass at the last minute and remain an occasional visitor from Pennsylvania. But we’ll be back soon!
I haven’t been to NYC ever, but what reminds me of it are the many details that people living there share about it—the restaurants, routines, people, landmarks… is this a uniquely New York thing to do? Because I don’t think I’ve read such detailed, intimate accounts of other cities.
(Enjoy reading them btw! I can experience the colour of NYC from afar)
thank you! that's so interesting - i think everything here is a bit romanticized, but i don't mean that in a negative way. i think the city is just so magical it's hard NOT to want to document all of it in detail <3
Aw i love this so much! I lived on west fourth street and via carota was my go to! Now I’m in NC but I have their cookbook and make their lemon risotto all the time!
