Love this - I recently said no to doing a yoga class with a good friend because I realized that I'm terrible at yoga and I have no desire to get better at it at the moment. So, although previous me would have cringed at saying no to someone, present me happily slept in and met that friend for coffee afterwards. Trying to do more of this, this year!

Okay now i FELT this!! I am awful at just being because i constantly think there is a better use of my time — i could be creating or learning or spending time with someone or reading and it just goes on!! And it is sometimes exhausting!! Like girl chill, you will not miss your whole life by taking a few things slower. Mr Ferris Bueller had some points

im a HUGE fan of dawdling and laying around, but am at my core a mover and shaker and serial hobbyist. I think these patterns ebb and flow! Why not have it all 😂

SPOOOOKKYYY LIKE OMG THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I’VE BEEN FEELING. and im pretty sure so many other ppl can relate to recently. i don’t wang to do anything, but that anything is what i “should” be doing or force myself to do cuz of fomo. in the end i’ve only ever felt unsatisfied or guilty for not reaching my goal caught up in consumption instead of the joy or journey of it all. the key is prioritize! i feel like i got second hand ephiphany’d?? doing what i want to do saying no more often unapologetically & wholeheartedly maybe then the lust for life will return. im new here and i love it here thank you can’t wait to see what you cook up next. #onelove🌹

Thank you for this. I feel the same as you. And one thing that always comes to mind when I log my books, meditate, write my gratitude journal and so on is the following: I often do things for them to be “done” instead of “won”. “Done” is completing the task, checking it off the list and feeling good about it being checked off. But “won” is really what we should be striving for. It’s the actual change that comes with doing these things. However, how can I really try to savour what I’m doing and reaping the benefits when I have a million things on my list that want to be completed?! I’m now trying to limit the amount of things I am doing to really take my time and lean into the things that I am actually doing.

as i am reading this it feels like my inner monologue articulating everything i needed to hear in a much better way sjfkdjfksdjf i often have these epiphanies when im at the beach Doing Nothing- i should just be having fun and taking deep breaths and not feeling bad if i break my duolingo streak or miss a show on vogue runway. also for the record you are the most well-rounded person i know and i also do not know the perfect temperature for roasting carrots.

not to add to your to do list 😂 but I highly highly recommend reading Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. From a fellow want-to-do-it-all-er, this book (and your post) spoke to me and gave the practical advice we all really need: you can’t actually do it all

love this sentiment! “less” was my theme for 2023 and it brought so much clarity to me throughout the year— crazy how “less” actually gave me “more” in a lot of ways. the default setting in america and especially nyc (where i live too) is go, go, go and it is exhausting (and feels less like “me” as the days goes on).

when it comes to logging everything, maybe take a short break or don’t strive for literal perfection, if any of that resonates with you. keeping lists and being active on the internet has its pros but living life IRL is also pretty awesome and validating.

Loved reading this and the "discovering new things" aspect of these apps is what keeps me from deleting them and using a simple spreadsheet. But the need for comparison is so real and sometimes I wonder if going back to the old days and use a spreadsheet to track my books and movies would be better for my mind...

I know your mother 😉and I know she said, “You’re so sophisticated,” too! And you can verify with your father that she truly didn’t know how to boil water when she first got married.

Love the “Say no May,” and I’m going it! Thanks for the suggestion!

Love you and being able to play a small part in said epiphanies. Can't wait to spend fomo free summer / also hang out during it all the time <3

I love this so much- so many wonderful thoughts and ideas in here that I’ve been trying to articulate myself for some time now! We do not always have to be creating, learning, doing and I think we often cut off our creativity at the knees when we try to be!

Big *spring cleansing* energy. Cutting off social media, reducing podcasts, etc. helped become more centred on my likings, and intentional about my doings. And it slowly and naturally streamlined, reordered and shortlisted them.
